The United Fresh Produce Association announces the release of the model transportation agreement between brokers and shippers. The model was prepared by members of the United Fresh Supply Chain Logistics Council in collaboration with the Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) and is designed to be used by members when establishing a specific business relationship between shipping companies and third-party service providers. “These days, transportation contracts are a necessity,” said James Lee, vice president, legal affairs, Chop Tank Transportation. “Given that products are exempt goods and that the transportation of products per se is not regulated, the importance of the United Fresh Produce Association and TIA creating a fair and ethical model contract that can be used by both shippers and logistics service providers cannot be overemphasized. I am proud to be just a small part of the members of both organizations who have given of their time, energy and expertise to make this happen. “This broker-shipper contract is the first of its kind for the product industry,” said Ken Lund, Vice President, Support Operations, Allen Lund Company, Inc., “This model will save association members many hours. It was developed by experts who worked hard to create a fair document that will allow the parties to do more business together. I am very proud of the United Fresh Produce Association which continues to provide membership tools to help them be more efficient and profitable. The Broker/Shipper Transportation Agreement template is a free resource for United Fresh members and can be downloaded from www.unitedfresh.org/resources.
