Donor countries are invited to contact JPO@unops.org for more information. In this category, things get really messy. First of all, there is a very wide variety of contracts and the terms of these can be very different. Second, some organizations consider consulting contracts, not HR contracts, and regulate them based on the organization`s procurement rules. As a rule, these contracts contain only small benefits for employees. Consulting contracts are limited in time, often short-term and often have a break in service rules. They generally allow for greater flexibility in wage negotiations. Examples of such contracts are Special Service Agreements (SSAs), Individual Contractor Agreements (AIAs) and others. In the category of non-employees or consultants, it becomes complicated. First of all, there is a very large selection of contracts.
These contracts are generally referred to as a “consultant contract”, “special service contract (SSA)”, “individual contractor (IC)” or “individual contractor contract (ICA)”. The terms of these contracts can vary greatly from one organization to another. In addition, more and more organizations do not consider these non-personnel contracts as HR contracts, but manage them in accordance with the organization`s procurement rules. Typically, these contracts include very few benefits. Consulting contracts are either limited in time or by department and often short-term. Many organizations have a break in service rules to prevent continued employment with non-staff contracts, but all non-staff contracts have advantages as they offer more flexibility than staffing contracts. Remuneration of international ICAs International ICAs receive a global monthly fee. In addition, international ICAs are entitled to additional benefits such as attractive training opportunities, paid annual leave as well as paid parental and sick leave. UNOPS also offers the possibility of enrolling in a provident fund (savings programme). ICA`s international fees are competitive and are at a certain post-level level depending on a number of factors. The base fee takes into account the contract amount and the current market price for similar roles, as well as the cost of living and difficulties in the respective office. In addition, elements such as the degree of specialization, complexity of tasks, training or experience that go beyond the minimum required may be taken into account.
Fees are negotiated directly with the individual contractor, taking these factors into account in the fee ranges applicable to each level. International ICA fees are competitive and are determined based on various factors within the different pay margins set for each level. When calculating the basic salary, the amount of the contract and the current market price for similar positions are taken into account, as well as the cost of living and the difficult living conditions of the workplace. Similarly, aspects such as degree of specialization, complexity of tasks, training or experience may be taken into account beyond the minimum required. Fees are negotiated directly with the individual contractor and these factors are factored into the pay margins applicable at each stage. Donor countries are encouraged to write to JPO@unops.org for additional information. Individual entrepreneurs (ICA) are an important resource for UNOPS and its partners. Depending on the range of functions and the workplace, there are three types of ICAs: the international ICA, the local ICA specialist and the local ICA support. Depending on organizational needs, availability of funds and satisfactory performance of the individual, ICAs have the option to work for a short period of time (1 hour to 3 months) or longer term through a full-time agreement with no predetermined end date for UNOPS.
Depending on institutional needs, availability of funds and satisfactory performance of the individual, individual contractors may work for UNOPS on short-term contracts (at least one hour and a maximum of three months) or with long-term full-time contracts with no specific end date. UNOPS internships offer students or graduates a unique opportunity to gain practical experience within a United Nations organization. Interns perform practical tasks in a variety of professional fields, applying and developing their skills under the guidance of experienced professionals. Jobs in General Services (GS) are national jobs, which means that these jobs are usually reserved for nationals of the country where the jobs are located. Jobs in the occupational category can be international and national. National jobs are often referred to as “national agent” (NO). If you have a national contract, you can expect to stay in the country and you don`t have to move. If you have an international treaty, you can be transferred anywhere in the world, a fact that is sometimes forgotten and can lead to conflicts when an organization tries to reassign international players. Los candidatos interesados pueden encontrar más información sobre el programa de JPO y sobre cómo presentar solicitudes aquÃ.
Occupational categories Generally require at least a master`s degree and are divided into different levels based on the job description. International professional levels range from P1 to P5 and up to the Director level, D1 to D2, followed by the Deputy Secretary General (ASG) level. For national professional officers, levels start at NO-A and go all the way up to NO-E. The Junior Professional Officer (JPO) programme provides practical experience in a United Nations organization to young professionals interested in a career in international work. Internships can have a regional, national or sectoral orientation and last from one to three years. Joint parliamentary commitments are promoted by the Member States. Fixed-term contracts are awarded for fixed-term services, i.e. one year or more, up to a maximum of five years per contract. Fixed-term contracts are concluded for a period of less than one year in order to meet a growing workload or a specific short-term need.
Each type of contract includes so-called professional and higher categories as well as employees of the general service. Shortlisted candidates will be required to participate in a series of assessments in order to be ready to be hired when a specific opportunity arises. Interns perform practical tasks in a wide range of professional fields while applying and developing their skills under the guidance of experienced professionals. United Nations staff contracts offer attractive compensation that includes a competitive salary and allowances. Los funcionarios de UNOPS desempeñan funciones primordials y están contratados en virtud de nombramientos de plazo temporal o fijo. FUNDING FOR JPOs UNOPS invites donor countries to fund new positions available for Young Professional Officers (JPOs). In some cases, UNOPS may establish a mandate based on specific needs and key areas. Remuneration of local ICAs Local salaries reflect market prices and the best conditions that exist at the local level for jobs of a similar nature and complexity. Fees vary from country to country depending on the availability of local workers with the required knowledge and skills.
Local ICAs with contracts of three months or more are entitled to additional benefits such as education, attractive health insurance (which includes life insurance and disability benefits), a pension fund, paid annual leave, parental and sick leave. Individual contractors are an essential resource for UNOPS and its partners. There are three types of individual applicants, depending on the service and type of functions: international individual applicants, local individual applicants (specialists) and local individual applicants (support). The duration of contracts awarded by UNOPS depends on the needs of the organization, the resources available and the performance of each contractor. It can be short (from one hour to three months) or long (full-time contracts of indefinite duration). .
